eFilms demonstrations across the world in Israel, the Balkans, and America

​​This fall, Lindsay Zarwell (USHMM) highlighted ephemeral films and frame-by-frame technology at the European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI) workshop in Jerusalem, Israel where experts gathered to discuss the topic of “Holocaust Archival Footage as a Historical Source: Methodology and Ethics in the Digital Era.” She spoke about details of the project in Tirana, Albania during the two week Archives in Motion workshop forging alliances and conservation among media archives throughout the Western Balkans. Application Developer Christopher Brown (USHMM) hosted the “Unleash the power of video” half-day workshop at the Museum Computer Network conference in New Orleans, Louisiana and shared intimate knowledge of the project’s open source annotation tool as well as online distribution options for video.

"Fresh Angles" Public Program in Washington, DC

​​Join us on October 27, 2015 at 7 p.m. for “Fresh Angles: Austria through the Eyes of Amateur Filmmakers,” a public program at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. Learn about our work on this collection of ephemeral films and this innovative web application. A more detailed look into the open source technology and how it was used to create the online experience will be presented at 6 p.m. Event Details

Projektfortsetzung gestartet

März 2014

 

Im März 2014 wurde Teil 2 des Projekts „Ephemere Filme“ gestartet, wiederum mit Unterstützung des Zukunftsfonds der Republik Österreich. Bis August 2015 wird die Website durch mindestens weitere 25 Filme ergänzt werden. Damit ist eine zeitliche, räumliche und thematische Erweiterung der Filmauswahl verbunden. Die ersten 25 Filme werden durch weitere Annotationen vertiefend erschlossen.

Website Präsentation im Österreichischen Filmmuseum

Die Präsentation der Website des Projekts „Ephemere Filme“ fand im Österreichischen Filmmuseum zum 75. Jahrestag des Novemberpogroms statt. Auf dem Programm standen ein Einblick in die reichhaltigen Sammlungsbestände des Österreichischen Filmmuseums und des United States Holocaust Memorial Museum sowie die Vorführung der neuartigen Technologie synchroner Film Annotation, die im Zuge dieses Projekts entwickelt wurde. Statt über Filme zu sprechen und zu schreiben: Kann man auch Notizen zu ihnen machen, wie Fußnoten zu einem Text? Kann man diese Notizen um andere Bilder und Informationen erweitern? Wie kann ein nicht exklusiver Zugang zu diesen Filmen aussehen, der die Eigenheiten ihres Originalformats respektiert? Das Projekt „Ephemere Filme“ versucht, einige Antworten zu geben. Fotos von der Veranstaltung.
